Martyr

Last weekend a university student fell from several floors in a car park. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead a few days later. Tragedy then struck Hong Kong.

First, accusations that the police withheld ambulance service to the victim were one of the first things that happened. Then, the police said they didn’t arrive on the scene until much later (this appears to be a false statement).

It really doesn’t matter what happened for conspiracy theories abound and people will take hold of them because they want to believe them and not the other side.

After the hospital announced the death of this student the protesters did a few things. First, they declared this person a martyr. We are not sure why because a martyr is someone who dies for a cause. We don’t think this person was ready to die at that time.

Second, the protesters held rallies and demanded “revenge.” They went to the student’s university and destroyed several eating places that have been associated with pro-government people. We are not sure how destroying places will satisfy their revenge or will help the soul of the dead student.

It must be remembered that in Romans 12:19 it is written “Revenge not yourselves, my dearly beloved; but give place unto wrath, for it is written: Revenge is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.”

It is now the first weekend after the death of this person. Protests were already planned but with this death and the calls for revenge it may prove to be another long and sad weekend.
