Lent has started and it’s for 40 days but not including Sundays. Why?

Sundays are a day of rest and thus, in the spirit of Sundays, it would not be wise to command the faithful to fast when they are trying to honor God. Besides, we all need rest and relaxation and the length of Lent while seeming to be long really isn’t.

Why 40 days? Because Christ fasted for 40 days in the desert and He commanded that we should follow Him. While Lent is a manmade event it is in the spirit of Christ in the desert that we should follow Him and be ready for Lent.
