Mother’s Day
In many countries the second Sunday of May is considered Mother’s Day. This is a day where you are supposed to honor your mother for everything that she has done for you.
In many countries people will take their mother out for a meal and give her cards and flowers. All are nice but why just do it once a year? For the Fourth Commandment is to honor your father and mother. So you should do honor her as much as you can.
It doesn’t have to be with meals or flowers. It could be just with a call or a letter from you being far away. Something that shows her, and the world, that you indeed honor your earthly mother.
But what about your Heavenly mother? From the time you became a Catholic to the end of your life you have a Heavenly mother that cares for you even after your earthly mother is no longer with us.
In 1531 Our Lady of Guadalupe spoke these words: “Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish?”
While she was speaking to one person she could also have been speaking to all of us. Let us honor our Heavenly mother because Christ honored his parents and we should do the same. For it is with Mary for whom we are under her protection. What else do we need to wish for?
