Teaching
On 15 September HK’s John Lee addressed a group of teachers for Teacher’s Day. He stated that HK’s Government will help strengthen teachers’ proper concepts concerning the Constitution, the Basic Law, the “one country, two systems” principle, national security and the spirit of the rule of law in a holistic manner.
Proper concepts are a recurring theme for this administration. The duty of teachers is to instill creative minds in their students and to explore and question the world around them. This administration appears only to be interested in people knowing only one way as the correct way.
St. John Baptist de LaSalle is the Patron of teachers. He wrote many books on the duty of teachers and how to conduct school. In all of his writings, he never said there was a single proper way of knowing anything. He wrote that teachers were to lead their students to God because upon Judgment Day teachers will be judged on not only their lives but the lives of their students.
HK Government should focus on what is important: God, math, science, art and music. Concepts of patriotism would come later because student’s since students will begin to understand that they too must be judged one day.
