Changing the law
Once again HK shows that it is not ruled by law but ruled by changing the law and thus thinking they are secured in their positions of power.
What is happening? The owner of an anti-government newspaper was arrested under national security laws. His trial starts in December and he has hired a lawyer from the UK. HK didn’t like this and has tried four times to bar the lawyer from representing the owner. HK has failed four times in this escapade.
Now, with the HK courts ruling against the HK government the government has turned to China to “re-interpret” the National Security Laws that China created in the first place.
The Church has said over and over again that rules will not protect a government alone. And at one point the fear the rules caused will go away and the people will try and take what they want. We see this in China today with the various Covid protests. We may see it in HK again if China changes the laws that they created.
Our Lady of China, pray for us.
