Charity
With the advent of another round of Covid-19 the Hong Kong government instituted a number of policy changes. Among these included that groups were allowed a maximum of 2 people (with few exceptions) and that all restaurants will be take away only (no dine in allowed).
The policy started on 29 July and was suppose to last at least 1 week. There were a number of problems with the new restaurant rules. Among these was the weather was supposed to be hot and there was basically no place to sit down and eat.
On the first day some restaurants had people waiting in the hot sun and then go off someplace to eat. The waiting and finding a place to eat took time away from their lunch hour. But they did find places to eat including malls and bus terminals.
On the morning of 30 July some places opened up some of their unused spaces to accommodate the large number of lunchers. These included community centers, more malls and more bus terminals. The main problem was that these acts of charities were only available in certain areas and if you worked someone else you were still forced to find another place.
By the end of the day the government gave up on this policy and stated that restaurants would be available to dine in for breakfast and lunch; dinner still had to be taken away.
It was nice to see different organizations open up their doors to this new problem of lunchers. Charity covers a multitude of sins and we only hope that these limited acts will lead to greater things so that everyone will be helped.
