Civil Service College
Recently, Hong Kong started a Civil Service College (CSC) and we shall not pass judgment upon its merits.
During the opening ceremonies, a deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office said that the CSC should focus on patriotism among civil servants, as well as their willingness to serve the people, a world vision as well as strategic thinking.
None of this surprises us. Patriotism has been a theme of Hong Kong for most of this year. The willingness to serve people is a standard trait in the civil service so this also doesn’t surprise us. But a world vision and strategic thinking concern us since this is typical Chinese where words are spoken but never defined. It means whatever China wants it to mean at that time.
We are concerned that this could mean the promotion of Communist ideas not only to the people of Hong Kong but the rest of the world as well. We know this would be wrong and have condemned Communism often because the Church has condemned it.
Carrie Lam, the leader of Hong Kong, also spoke at the opening ceremonies. She said that civil servants must respect the Chinese Communist party and its vision. She is supposed to be a “catholic” but has never once condemned Communism. As readers have long noted that she is a supporter of Communism and has urged people to support the Communist party.
One can not be a Communist and a Catholic at the same time. One must choice which is more important for them. In either case, even for non-Catholics, the end of life is the same. They will be judged by God for their actions in this life.
