Lawlessness

It would appear that Hong Kong has now entered a state of lawlessness. It is already known that the protesters and the police operate under their own laws and not necessarily under the laws of Hong Kong or even basic human laws. They do what they want and forget about the rest.

Recently, the Hong Kong courts have rightly ruled that the use of the Emergency Regulations Ordinance (ERO) was unconstitutional to ban wearing face masks. The reason given was that the ERO was supposed to be used when the city is in a state of emergency or a state of emergency was declared at the time of usage.

There was no state of emergency at the time or even declared. In fact, the Chief Executive stated clearly that no emergency was in place. Thus, the courts said that since no emergency was declared, therefore, the ban was unconstitutional.

China did not like this ruling and stated that only they had the power to decide what was constitutional or not. They said that the face mask ban was constitutional and therefore correct. They are supposed to issue a ruling about this soon.

With China’s declaration, it is becoming clear that Hong Kong has no independent rule of law. The only law that is allowed is whatever China states. Thus, no laws in Hong Kong except for China’s laws.

If no independent laws are allowed then anything is possible including the use of the Chinese military to subdue the protests. Also, perhaps a change in education.

But what is more troubling is that if Hong Kong will be changed to China’s standards then the law of God will be forgotten. A whole people may never know God and with that, their souls are in grave danger.
