The official start of Lent is on Ash Wednesday. This is the time when traditional Catholics do fast, abstinence, and sacrifice for not only God but in preparation for Easter.

Why does the Church impose such things during Lent? There are many reasons why. But perhaps one of the better answers is: Would anyone even think of the importance of Easter if no one did anything for it?
