Lent

It is now the season of Lent. This is the time that many Catholics look upon as fearful and hopeful. Fearful because it is the time that many difficulties come upon a person. It may be something as being late to work or school. Or it may be something more serious such as losing a job or a loved one.

Catholics are also hopeful because Easter is coming. This is the time we celebrate the resurrection of Our Lord and that by his death and rising rings what He said was true. This brings us hope.

It is also at Lent that many roadblocks occur in our lives as citizens of a place. This is the time that governments make laws, or even suggestions, that certain things in our lives must be changed. And it is often for the worse.

We also see non-Catholics trying to promote the idea that religion is false and that there is no God and thus, no judgment. This is sad.

Here, in Hong Kong, the government is thinking about “fixing” various issues about national security so that when people are arrested for such cases the government will always win. This is also sad because they do not care about justice or charity to the people. All they care about it staying in power so the people will not rise up against them.

We know that even those who deny Christ must face judgment when they die. Thus, with Lent, it brings us hope that perhaps one day those who deny Christ will come to the realization that Christ does exist.

They still have time to choose. We hope it is not too late for them.
