Hong Kong is becoming a darker place. This week we saw the journalist group being denied a place to hold their annual meeting. We also saw a university pull a screening of a movie because of government threats about how they might break the law if they showed the movie. Finally, we saw one of the last opposition political groups voting to disband.

Taken individually these events don’t amount to much. Taken in a broader scheme of things this just shows that the government thinks it is in control of the daily lives of its people. They are far from the truth.

True, people fear the government because of the suppression of various rights but fear will only hold people back for only for a time. Then people will rise up and fight back. No matter what the cost.

But as we enter the pre-Lenten season we are assured that Christ is the Light of the World and He will forever shine his grace and mercy onto people if only they call upon Him. Then no one can take away the salvation of Christ’s church or His people.
