May 1

1 May is known as the Communist Labor Day. To celebrate this day in Hong Kong I give you a definition of a ‘patriot’ paraphrased and reworded from the papal encyclical “Communism and the Church in China” published in 1958:

“The appearance of patriotism which in reality is just a fraud, primarily makes Hong Kongers gradually embrace the tenets of atheistic materialism, by which God Himself is denied and religious principles are rejected.”

To combat this rise in so-called patriotism and Communism the Church promotes 1 May as the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. This is to remind everyone that we all must labor not only for our own welfare and salvation but for the welfare and salvation of others. Communism will never help anyone except their own false leaders.

St Joseph the Worker, pray for us.
