Values Education
Hong Kong has decided that all subjects must teach newly revised values with Chinese characteristics. These values are: perseverance, respect for others, responsibility, national identity, commitment, integrity, care for others, law-abidingness, and empathy.
While these may sound harmless and even useful they pose a threat to the well-being of anyone if they are taught incorrectly or with a sinister purpose. In this case, it is being taught with the love of China as the basis for all things.
While the love of country isn’t wrong it can be wrong if there is nothing else. It lets people be indoctrinated for a certain set of values and the rejection of all others. This includes religion.
The primary duty of humans is the honor and worship of God; not the state. Yet, this new values policy clearly has the worship of the state as the primary duty of its citizen. As we have told before this will only lead to citizens that never question (or even fear) the state and reject all others. Including God.
