Change
It has come to our attention that there has been a shakeup at the HK Liason Office. The person in charge of the office has been demoted and been replaced by one of Xi’s “yes” men. What does this all mean?
While a change in government positions is at the pleasure of the leader it comes at a time when stability is more important than change. It is unknown why Xi a replacement now but we suppose it can not be a good thing.
Right now Hong Kong is trying to recover from several months of protests and now dealing with a new virus. Changing positions in the midst of all this shows that China is changing directions or is punishing the former leader for a lack of effort. We don’t know.
Besides what a new leadership means to Hong Kong we are also concerned that the new leader is anti-religious. It has been reported that he lead the charge for churches to remove their crosses from outside their buildings.
If the new leader does the same thing to Hong Kong as he did for those churches we fear the worst. He may urge Hong Kong to promote the “joys of Communism” as well as patriotism and other things. If so, then the protests of last summer will continue but perhaps in a worst way.
