On Government
Recently, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong stated the importance of improving the executive-led political system and vowed to strengthen his government’s sense of ownership over Hong Kong, which requires support from the legislature and the judiciary.
We feel this is a dangerous path because it shows that the executive power is in control and the other two are just to support it. A better government would be that all three systems support and check each other.
We also feel that this is another step towards Communist control and thus a dictatorship of Hong Kong. For a government where one system is supreme over the others is not a democracy but a system controlled by one system.
This is dangerous not only for the Chief Executive but also for the people of Hong Kong. For the Church has stated: “Communism is intrinsically wrong, and no one who would save Christian civilization may collaborate with it in any undertaking whatsoever. Those who permit themselves to be deceived into lending their aid towards the triumph of Communism in their own country, will be the first to fall victims of their error.” (On Atheistic Communism)
If the Chief Executive, who once said he was a Catholic, wishes to save his soul, then he must turn away from the path that he has started on.
