Seven Sorrows
15 September is the Feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is an odd feast because it is not only in September but also just before Easter as well. It is that important to the Church that people remember at least some of the sorrows of the Blessed Virgin.
Of all the titles of the Blessed Virgin most can go into the categories of faith, or hope, or charity. But the Seven Sorrows can not go into any of them; they stand alone and away from all the others. She had more than seven but seven is all that most of us can attempt to understand. Any more then we can never begin to understand her sorrows.
Only those who have suffered loss can even begin to understand the sorrows of the Blessed Virgin. But even those who had a loss still will never understand her sufferings. Many have tried and all of them have failed.
The best that any of us can do is to try to console a Mother who we can not console.
