Tragic deaths

It has been reported that the number of suicides in Hong Kong, has increased over the last year. In fact, the number of deaths was the highest since 2003. This does not surprise us.

While the deaths are tragic, we suspect there are many reasons.

1) Old age- people just don’t want to live or be a burden to society or their family. Also, the young may ignore the old because the young are “busy” with life.

2) Students- students may feel the stress of both school and/or the expectations of their parents. They may feel that they will never be successful or meet the needs of those around them.

3) Economics- adults are worried about losing their job and being able to provide for not only themself but their family as well. With the economy not doing well adults may just feel powerless to provide for those around them.

4) National Security- with the government always talking about it, or people watching their friends and/or family getting arrested, they may feel powerless and worry about them being the next one to get arrested.

We will never know why people kill themselves. They take that secret with them. What we do know is that people often don’t believe in God or His justice. The government doesn’t promote it, and neither do groups that monitor suicides. This is the greatest tragedy of all.

Until society puts God first, we feel the number of suicides will continue to go up.
